  11. 2004 Albertina Wine Cellars Cabernet Sauvignon

    $ 28.95

    Only 450 cases of this rare, full-bodied 2004 Cabernet Sauvignon from Mendocino County, California were bottled. This has a beautiful, dense, ruby/purple color, a luscious nose of black fruits intermixed with crushed rocks, sweet jammy strawberries and chocolate, with a long finish. The wine has subtle hints of oak, chewy in the mouth, and lots of youth in its long finish. This wine is approachable now, but should drink well for 5-7+ years. Greg Grazianois (formerly of La Crema) one of the more talented winemakers in California, teamed up with Fred Zamarly on this outstanding effort. Albertina’s grapes came from the famous Waddington ranch which produces intense flavors. Aged in French, American and Hungarian oak for 20 months, the vintage was then bottle aged an additional 18 months. Albertina Wine Cellars is a boutique winery that specializes in ultra-premium Cabernet Sauvignon produced from mountain grapes. Fred and Alberta Zmarzly plant 17 acres of their 418 acre ranch mostly with Cabernet Sauvignon vines; Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petite Verdot balance the vines. Located on the north side of the mountain slope, the vineyard offers a unique terroir and microclimate that produce intense flavors and colors. The fruit-forward wines produced here offer berry flavors and are very drinkable, having been bottle-aged before release; however, the wine will continue to improve in the bottle for many years. Waddington Ranch Vineyards produces very good fruit and is the source of the 2003 and 2004 bottlings. Located in the hills east of Hopland, Waddington offers intense fruits with berry flavors.
