Festival '34 2006 Cabernet Sauvignon

Originally priced @ $15, the juicy, luscious red is being Blown Out at $5.98 while supplies last. Like the Twotone Cabernet deal from a cuple of months back, if you do not move quickly, you will miss out! We can't stress enough how great a deal this really is. Summer is on the horizon and a need for a great drinking house red at a price like this is something we all hope for but seldom find. This is the real deal; high quality juice and an unbelievably low price. Come and get it! About the label: Festival '34 was a major event in the California wine scene following the repeal of prohibition in 1933. This label pays homage this historic event. Tasting note: When crafting this wine, the winemaking team selected luscious fruit from the AVA's of Monterey and Paso Robles, two highly regarded wine growing regions. The majority of the wine was aged for over a year in French and American small oak barrels to add layers of complexity and to mellow the tannins. The winemaker blended in small amounts of Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petite Sirah to create a wine boasting with rich aromas and flavors. This wine is rich and satisfying, with raspberry and plum aromas and flavors with hints of cedar, mint and cassis. A structured mid-palate carries the fruit into the long finish.
Apothic Red 2008 Winemaker's Blend
$ 8.98The 2008 release from the fine folks at Apothic is another knockout value, just like the 2007 that sold out in mere minutes when offered earlier this year. Robert Parker called the 2007 "One of the greatest bargains I have ever tasted from California" and it is our opinion that the 2008 delivers every bit the same quality as the 2007. This fun, easy drinking red packs a wallop with its fruit-driven core and soft velvety structure. It is the ultimate pizza and burger wine. And if we can't convince you to put some away, check out what Robert Parker wrote about the 2007 Apothic Red in his year-end issue of The Wine Advocate: I am breaking my own rules about only reviewing Napa wines in this report simply because this is one of the greatest bargains I have ever tasted from California. Made by the Gallo family, it is a blend of 45% Syrah, 44% Zinfandel, 9% Merlot, and 2% Cabernet Sauvignon that comes from primarily Lodi as well as Sonoma, the Central Coast, and Napa. Discounters will undoubtedly have it for even less than $10. A hedonist’s dream, this fruit-bomb exhibits loads of berry fruit, pepper, and spice, silky tannins, and an attractive mouthfeel. Neither heavy nor overly alcoholic, there are 15,000 cases of this beauty, which will provide enormous relief for weary, recession-challenged wine consumers. It should drink well for 1-2 years. Bravo to Gallo!
Avalon 2007 Cabernet Sauvignon

Tasting Note: With its deep crimson color the 2007 Avalon Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon exhibits aromas of raspberry, blackberry, mint and black cherries. Vanilla and short bread cookie notes bring balance and frame the ripe berry flavors. Small barrel oak aging gives the wine additional breadth and weight on the palate. Napa Valley characteristics show through with strawberries, red raspberries and a faint root beer note with quintessential Oakville dark cherries. The tannins are fine and give off a velvety texture. Supple, elegant and richly flavored, this is classic Napa Valley Cabernet at a price we can all live with. That is why it is our best selling wine and why you should try it if you haven’t already. 2005 Le Bord'eaux du Clos des Moiselles Merlot
$ 9.99Le Bord'Eaux is an outstanding value. 100% Merlot and 100% estate bottled from delineated sources on the eastern side of Bordeaux, it comes from a 10.5 hectare section of a 13.5 ha vineyard site. Estate bottled wine at $9.99 (try that trick in sunny California!)? The disposition of the wine is easy. It is perfectly ripe, has a chocolate-y core quality, some mineral notes, and a supple texture. If there is any fault, and this is when the downside is the upside, the wine is to drink up and is not so structured. The undemanding quality will make some converts. 88 points Rhett Beiletti, B-21
