  1. 2008 Bodega Norton Malbec Mendoza

    $ 6.99

    "This has the pure flavor of freshly pressed cherries, with an accent on ripeness that includes darker flavors of blackberries. The finish is fresh and seductively sweet." 88 points - Wine & Spirits, June 2009 "Sweet, intriguing aromas of orange peel, spearmint and boysenberry jam give this individuality, while the flush palate serves up soft but ripe plum and berry flavors. Uncomplicated, with weight and adequate freshness. A Best Buy." 86 points - Wine Enthusiast, August 1, 2009 "The unoaked 2008 Malbec displays a nose of spice box and black cherry followed by a medium-bodied, tasty wine with a solid core of fruit and no hard edges. 3. Foxglove 2008 Chardonnay

    $ 10.98

    Hat's off once again to the great folk’s at Varner Vineyards in the Santa Cruz Mountains for producing another blockbuster Chardonnay at a price point that is almost laughable. I mean they could price this stuff for double and it would still fly off our shelves! The just-released 2008 has a richer and more fruit dominated framework than the 2007, yet maintains its fresh approach with great acidity and has a tremendous finish complimented by wonderful mineral notes. Hot of the press, Robert Parker praises: The sensational 2008 Chardonnay Central Coast, which is fermented and aged completely in stainless steel with no malolactic fermentation, is a 30,000-cuvee of fabulous Chardonnay. Loads of tropical fruit, honeysuckle, and orange blossom notes fill the olfactory sense, as does the luscious medium-bodied texture on the palate. The wine is buttressed by crisp underlying acidity, and the result is a fresh, naked expression of Chardonnay that is top-flight. Drink it over the next year or so. These are absolutely spectacular bargains from the very high-quality Varner Winery in the Santa Cruz Mountains. This is their less expensive line-up of wines, and I encourage readers to try them – they are true winners.
