Ripe summer blackberries and plums overwhelm both the nose and palate of this wine. Its trademark inky, jammy qualities are a barrage of black fruit and spice, adding layer upon layer of complexity. Notes of supple leather and toasty oak envelop the flavors through the finish, giving way to wisps of caramel and vanilla. The firm tannins make this a wine that can develop for years to come, but you won’t want to wait that long to enjoy it! Try this unique wine with rich meat dishes of lamb, pork or game and their hearty sauces.

2007 Paringa Cabernet Sauvignon South Australia
$ 7.99a deeply opaque blackish-red color with streaks of violet going out into a deep purplish-pink rim definition and ultrahigh viscosity. On the nose, the wine explodes with crushed blackberries, crème de cassis, vanilla, oak references, black cherries, soft red plums, spice notes, licorice components and minerals. On the palate, there are powerfully extracted crushed black berry fruits dominated by spicy black currants, wild cherries, brambleberries and sloe fruit, with good amounts of acidity. The midpalate is supple and quite delicious to discover, leading into a rounded finish with a soft tannin touch, revealing yet more cassis and currant notes.
2004 Gallo Family Merlot Reserve (Sonoma)
$ 7.99"Another superb bargain is the 2006 Cabernet Sauvignon Sonoma. Notions of cassis, bay leaf, licorice, and wood emerge from this dark ruby/purple-colored effort. On the palate, pure cassis and dusty, loamy soil characteristics are accompanied by admirable fruit, medium to full body, and a silky texture. All four of these wines are sensational bargains." 88 points - Robert Parker's The Wine Advocate, Issue 180 "Great job with a Cab this dry and balanced, at such a fair price. Shows classic balance and elegance, with black currant, anise and smoky oak flavors. Now through 2009." 88 points - Wine Enthusiast, November 15, 2008 "Firm, spicy and full-bodied, offering minty herb, dried currant and berry flavors, with mineral, sage and cedary oak. Ends with drying tannins. Drink now through 2013. 11,492 cases made." 87 points - Wine Spectator, August 3, 2009
