2007 Chateau Oupia (Minervois)
$ 9.99Iche has crafted a 2007 Minervois Tradition that smells of ripe cassis and black cherries tinged with resinous herbs and bitter fruit pit and toasted nuts, elements that all contribute to its almost silken-textured palate impression where one finds underlying richness of salted beef stock and dark chocolate. In the best manner of its vintage, we have here a combination of richness and elegance. The finish of chocolate-covered black fruits, bouillon, and herbal concentrate is not in the least superficially sweet, but instead remains possessed of real refreshment, with the cyanic note of cherry stone and tincture of iodine offering lasting, subtly bitter counterpoint. This exceptional value should be a delight over at least the next 2-3 years. Andre Iche renders a style of Minervois slightly reminiscent of Marc Tempes (at Domaine Courbissac) in its restraint and sheer refreshment traits rare in this appellation as well as in its complexity. From centenarian Carignan, with smaller amounts of Syrah and Grenache. 90 Points, Robert Parker's Wine Advocate (Aug 2009) Syrah, Carignan and Grenache from hillside sites. A real value, this wine, bright and fresh, delivers real intensity of flavor, blackberry, smoked meats and dried fruits, and a nice underlying minerality. For those you buying the 2005 from us before, you will recognize the wine, that is the beauty of domaine bottled wines. 89 Points, Rhett Beiletti, B-21
2005 J.Kerr Californio Chardonnay
$ 10.95"This may be the best price to value wine I have ever tasted. It's hard to imagine that a wine that spent two years in barrels then another year in bottle could sell for this price. Ultrarich and concentrated, with layers of fig, citrus and tangerine flavors that are shaded by toasty oak, filling out the flavor profile and ending with a complex marshmallow edge. Drink now through 2011". CPM 05/2008 For much of his wine career John Kerr has been famed for his way with Chardonnay and Santa Barbara County's Bien Nacido Vineyard gave him the perfect fruit to show what he could do with the grape. This amazing Chardonnay is a blend of grapes from his 2004-2005 barrels. The beautifully balanced Californio (Original Mexican term for California) wine is barrel fermented but not overly oaked. It is light and crisp with lots of tropical fruit flavors and a perfect acidity and balance. This wine is rich, fresh and lively. A beautiful blend from one of the Born to a career Navy Officer, John spent his childhood moving around the country. In 1969 John was drafted into the Army and spent two years in Vietnam as a helicopter weapons specialist and door gunner. He began his winemaking career in 1972 shortly after returning home as a decorated veteran. At Brookside Winery in Ventura, California John began developing his love for grapes. In 1980 John moved to Monterey County and began seriously pursuing a winemaking career. He worked at Chalone and Jekel wineries before spending four years at Ventana Vineyards and Winery where he was in charge of production. In 1984 he returned to Santa Barbara County where he became an independent consulting winemaker, assisting Babcock Winery in their first crush, producing seven varietals that were all awarded gold medals in competitions. He assisted Brander and Houtz wineries, and was the winemaker at Houtz for four years. Working at several wineries at once, John also began working for Byron Winery in 1986. 1986 is the year of the first JJ. Kerr Wines crush. Concentrating on Chardonnay, which is the mainstay of JJ.Kerr Wines, John began making reds in 1988 with highly acclaimed Syrah wines. In 1990 Byron became an R.J. Mondovi subsidiary and John took the position of assistant winemaker but continued to nurture his own label JJ Kerr Wines. Expanding from Chardonnay, John began his ground breaking work on Pinot Noir in 1991 in Santa Barbara. In 1995 John went to work for the Firestone family as
"The 2005 Pasodoble is a blend of 34% Cabernet Sauvignon, 33% Malbec, and 33% Syrah sourced from a 20 year old vineyard and aged for 12 months in French oak. Dark ruby/purple-colored, it exhibits an expressive perfume of cedar, spice box, pepper, blackcurramts, black cherry, and blueberry. Smooth-textured, elegant, and tasty, this nicely balanced Bordeaux look-alike can be enjoyed now and over the next 5-7 years. It is an outstanding value." 90 Points, Robert Parker's Wine Advocate #174 (Dec 2007)
2007 Chateau Pesquie Terrasses
$ 12.99The 2007 Terrasses Rouge is a custom cuvee put together for importer Eric Solomon. Made from 60-year-old Grenache and 30-year-old Syrah, one-third is aged in small barrels and the rest in foudre and tank. Im sure discounters will offer this cuvee for around $12 a bottle, which makes it a remarkable bargain. A dense ruby/purple color is followed by aromas of cassis, kirsch, lavender, pepper, and spice. The sweetness of the tannins, abundant glycerin, razor sharp focus, and wonderful depth make for a wine that transcends its humble price and bucolic appellation. Drink it over the next 2-3 years. 91 Points, Robert Parker's Wine Advocate (June 2009) "70 % Grenache and 30 % Syrah (with some traces of Carignan and Cinsault). 35 % of this vintage is aged in oak barrels (2 to 4 years old) or in oak tanks for about one year. The 2007 vintage is a vintage of extreme balance with the intensity of 2005 and the softness of the 2006. This medium to full-bodied wine is still very fresh and elegant and allies onctuous tannins to flavours or red and black berries with a touch spice. Very easy to match. With simples dishes such as pizzas, kebabs, charcuterie, vegetable pies or salads to more ambitious cuisine like terrines, poultry (guineafowl, turkey...), roasted or grilled meats." - Winemaker's Paul and Edith Chaudière

2005 Stacked Stone Cellars The Zin Stone
$ 13.95The Zin Stone is a full bodied old vine Zinfandel. This banger reveals notes of kirsch liqueur, melted licorice, black raspberries, and hints of pepper. Rich, ripe and meaty with a huge fruit back bone. This hedonistic turn-on should be enjoyed over the next 3-5 years. What a taste treat with Italian food, family and friends to help you enjoy "The Zin Stone"! Stacked Stone Cellars is located in the Paso Robles Appellation. It was founded in 1998 by Donald Thiessen. The vineyard is named after the elaborate stacked stone landscaping adorning its grounds. It grows high quality fruit capable of producing world-class wines. Stacked Stoneâs grapes benefit from the areas' nearly perfect soils and unusual micro-climates. Planted traditionally, head pruned and dry-land-farmed, the estates consistently produce highly concentrated and complex wines. Stacked Stone Cellars harvested and vinified its first commercial vintage in 2002 producing nearly 1000 cases. Although Stacked Stone Cellars primary focus is Zinfandel, other wines also produced include: Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Bordeaux Blends, Syrah, Petite Syrah, and a fortified Port-style wine.
