MacMurray 2005 Pinot Gris Sonoma Coast

2005 Charles Cimicky Trumps Grenache/Shiraz Barossa Valley
$ 13.99"Bright red. Intensely spicy red berry aromas remind me of high-end New World pinot; this boasts impressive purity and thrust. Exotic baking spices accent fresh strawberry and raspberry fruit, with silky tannins adding gentle support. Sweetness builds on the long, juicy, very precise finish. It's hard to believe that this wine is carrying 15.5% alcohol. The grenache vines used for this bottling are reportedly 80 years old." 90 points - Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar, Jul/Aug 07 "An outstanding bargain, the 2005 Grenache/Shiraz Trumps (72% Grenache and 28% Shiraz aged 15 months in old French oak) possesses a deep ruby/purple color, copious fruit, superb purity, and a touch of background wood. It is a full-bodied, powerful, amazingly flavorful wine for the price. Enjoy it over the next 2-3 years." 89 points - Robert Parker's The Wine Advocate, Issue 167 (Oct 2006) "Firm and spicy, with a distinct licorice note running through the dark fruit flavors, lingering nicely against fine tannins. Best from 2008 through 2015. 1,000 cases made." 89 points - Wine Spectator, October 15, 2007 "A blend of 65% Grenache and 35% Shiraz, this is a lush, easy-to-drink wine meant for early consumption. The blend brings stone fruit and cherries, underscored by spice cake and chocolate, with hints of espresso and cola on the finish." 89 points - Wine Enthusiast, November 1, 2007
Cristom 2005 Estate Syrah - 375ml
$ 16.98It perfectly expresses bright Syrah notes of finely milled black pepper, slightly sweet smoked meat and a touch of cocoa, plus lots of smoky berry. A winning style, if surprisingly lean on the palate, more so than the 2004. A bit of decanting brings out richer, ripe red fruit, though it retains the radiant flavors that make Cristom Pinots so delicious. And no fear of weakness here; it hit 14.2 percent alcohol.
2005 Faiveley Bourgogne Rouge Joseph Faiveley
$ 18.99Deep ruby color; pleasant aromas of fruit (cherries, currants, raspberries) and wood. Ripe, mouth-coating tannins, due in part to aging in oak barrels, in part to the maturity of the grapes. This bourgogne is so well-balanced it can be enjoyed at present, but for all that, you could cellar it for several years, especially if it is bottled in magnum. Serve at 15° Celsius with red meats, pork and creamy cheeses. Wine Makers Notes. Only 3500 cases produced. Kind: Reds Vintage: 2005 Region: France Varietal: Pinot Noir
2005 Isole e Olena Chianti Classico
$ 19.98Isole e Olena-s 2005 Chianti Classico is a pretty wine to enjoy over the next few years. Floral aromatics follow through to a well-articulated expression of small red fruits, wild herbs and tobacco, with a very pretty, almost Pinot-like clarity. This delicate, feminine Chianti Classico offers excellent length as well as balance, two qualities that were hard to come by in this vintage. Anticipated maturity: 2008-2010. Kind: Reds Vintage: 2005 Region: Italy
Buena Vista 2005 Pinot Noir Carneros
$ 21.55Winemaker Notes - The 2005 Pinot Noir Carneros has aromas of bright Bing cherry, fresh ground nutmeg and earthy wild mushroom. The palate explores hints of toastiness and exhibits flavors of deep blackberry and cherry with undertones of dark chocolate and clove spice. This is a wine of depth that leads to a long finish complemented by soft tannins and lingering berry fruit, all considered hallmarks of Carneros Pinot Noir.
Picket Fence 2005 Pinot Noir Russian River Valley
$ 22.95Tasting Notes - This wine has an elegant, pure fruit forward style, with brilliant intensity, spice and rich Bing cherry, but with a luxurious density in the mouthfeel. The hallmark of this vintage is the great palate appeal, the fruit coupled with the velvety texture make this a superlative example of Russian River Valley Pinot.
It perfectly expresses bright Syrah notes of finely milled black pepper, slightly sweet smoked meat and a touch of cocoa, plus lots of smoky berry. A winning style, if surprisingly lean on the palate, more so than the 2004. Adelsheim 2005 Pinot Noir Willamette Valley
$ 27.95Winemaker Notes - The intent Adelsheim brings to producing and blending the Willamette Valley Pinot noir is to unite the elements â especially the fresh fruit flavors â that typify Pinot noir in this region, albeit as tempered by the vagaries of the vintage. By blending the diverse flavors and textures of multiple vineyards, Winemaker Dave Paige produces a richly supple and focused Pinot noir. This wine displays red fruit and dark cherry characters, both in the nose and on the palate. Wild cherry and juicy raspberry flavors intermingle with hints of spice.
Chalone 2006 Pinot Noir Estate
$ 28.95Winemaker Notes - Perched high in the remote Gavilan Mountain Range, 1,800 feet above Salinas Valley, Chalone Vineyard is a one-of-a-kind wine estate. This is extreme wine country with rare limestone soils, limited rainfall and wide diurnal temperature swings. The unique terroir produces wine that imparts a subtle mineral character with compelling fruit and richness. By California standards, Chalone Vineyard's grape yields are small (less than three tons per acre), but the grapes from this vineyard achieve homogeneity of ripeness and display intense character and superb balance. The new Pinot Noir clones, planted in 1997, are really showing their potential with the 2005 vintage. The wine is darkly colored and amazingly opulent, with fantastic fruit intensity leaning toward red cherries and strawberries. Firm in body, with big tannins, this wine has amazing texture and length of finish. The ten months it spent in French oak integrated the fruit and tannins into a truly hedonistic glass of wine. Pair with roasted turkey, seared duck with cherry sauce, grilled salmon and wild mushroom risotto.
Waltzing Bear 2005 Petite Sirah Bud French Camp Vineyard
$ 29.98Named after Brad's father who loves petite sirah, this tannic grape has been tamed with French oak and the skill of a Pinot producer. This fruit-forward and elegant wine is approachable and delicious, pairing well with red meats or dark chocolates.
2005 Faiveley Mercury Clos des Myglands
$ 31.99Very deep crimson color. The nose expresses itself without restraint with oak aromas of licorice and warm spices. The first impression is full, round, almost sweet. The mouth is very dense, of surprising concentration, sustained by soft tannins originating from the very ripe fruit. This Mercurey is a beautiful example of this exceptional vintage. It is a wine that already gives pleasure but shows great aging potential. Serve at 15 degrees C. with game, white meats and certain ripened cheeses. Wine Makers Tasting Notes. Only 600 cases produced!! Kind: Reds Vintage: 2005 Region: France Varietal: Pinot Noir
2005 Sanctuary Pinot Noir Bien Nacido Vineyards (Santa Maria)
$ 34.99"Dense and closed, this wine needs some cellaring to let it develop. It seems to have everything a young Pinot needs: balanced acids and tannins, a silky texture, dryness, and a hearty core of blackberry and cherry fruit. Let it be through 2007, then open for another five or six years." 90 points - Wine Enthusiast, July 1, 2007
Ketcham Estate 2007 Pinot Noir Russian River Valley (Michael Browne)
$ 35.95Tasting Notes - The wine is crafted from two vineyards- 80% Ketcham Vineyard, and 20% OâNeel Vineyard. The nose is pure Russian River Valley with our vineyardâs signature spice and bright cherry and raspberry fruits. The wines from our vineyard always show firm acidity, and this vintage is, again, firm and snappy. The palate has red fruit, mineral, spice and cola, and shows a softer side than the 2005. 840 cases produced.
2006 Walter Hansel Chardonnay Cahill Lane Vineyard Russian River
$ 36.99One of the two final cuvees to be released from the 2006 Chardonnays is the Cahill Lane, which displays hazelnut, honeysuckle, some buttered brioche and creme caramel notes, good fruit, richness, and depth, but given its quickly evolving style, it needs to be drunk over the next 1-2 years. This is a source for very fine Chardonnays and Pinot Noirs at some of the most realistic prices to be found in Northern California. Like several producers in the Russian River, the 2006s out of bottle from Walter Hansel Winery seem to be evolving quickly and, by-and-large, are slightly less impressive than they were at the beginning of their lives. Nevertheless, the good producers have achieved noteworthy success in this vintage, and certainly Stephen Hansel should be proud of what hes been able to accomplish in that vintage. Moreover, the 2007s look to be a return to the brilliant quality of the wines produced here in 2005 and 2004. Tasting through barrel samples of all the 2007 Pinot Noirs, this looks to be a superb vintage for Stephen Hansel. Yields were very small, averaging about 1.5 tons of fruit per acre, so these wines reflect a level of concentration, but with the overt fragrance and good acidity that the cool growing season provided. 92 Points, Robert Parkers' Wine Advocate, Issue 180
Saintsbury 2005 Pinot Noir Carneros Lee Vineyard
$ 39.95WE 90pts. - Winemaker Notes - The 2005 Saintsbury Lee Vineyard Pinot Noir displays the most primal pinot fruit character of the three Vineyard Series wines. The aromas are of focused, intense black cherry and warm earth. This pinot possesses significa
2005 Gallois Gevrey-Chambertin
$ 39.992005 Dominique Gallois Gevrey-Chambertin: A fresh and notably pure nose features earthy red and black pinot fruit and underbrush hints that introduce rich, full and robust flavors that possess punchy and real volume on the delicious and serious finish. There is good dry extract that buffers the firm structure. 87-89 Points, Allen Meadow's Burghound Issue 25
Freeman 2006 Russian River Valley Pinot Noir
$ 41.98Winemakers Notes: Similar to 2005, the 2006 Freeman Russian River Valley Pinot Noir will be the most approachable Pinot in our line up. The nose is shy at first, but opens up to reveal interesting scents of pomegranates and earth. The palate is lush with plum flavors, round tannins and fairly low acidity. The fruit goes on and on in the finish and predicts a Pinot which should drink well for the next 6 years.
2005 Perrot-Minot Chambolle-Musigny VV WA 92-93 WS 92 375ml
$ 44.99From a hundred-year-old parcel in the Bussiere vineyard, Perrot-Minot’s 2005 Chambolle-Musigny Vieilles Vignes, is from vines and a site whose fruit he says demands gentle extraction to retain perfume and elegance. He’s certainly succeeded ! Vivid black cherry and bittersweet floral notes in the nose and a burst of fresh ripe fruit with chalky, salty accents make for one of the more mouth watering experiences possible with Pinot. A remarkable creaminess of texture and refinement of tannin as well as sheer density for a wine of “village” are on exhibit . (And, incredibly, the wine had just been racked in preparation for bottling a few days before I arrived.) 3 half bottles left! Kind: Reds Vintage: 2005 Region: France Varietal: Pinot Noir
Goldeneye 2005 Pinot Noir Anderson Valley
$ 49.95WS 92pts. - WE 92pts. - According to the Wine Spectator: Rich and distinctive, with complex, concentrated loamy earth, black cherry, wild berry, savory spice and fresh earth scents. The tannins are rich and mouthcoating, yet the fruit pours through. Drink now through 2011. Winemaker's Notes - This medium weight wine is well-balanced with the bright acidity leaving for a long finish. The aroma is rich with dark cherries, nutmeg, caramelized apple, cinnamon, and clove. The palate is full of plum, spice, cherry, strawberry, and vanilla oak. This wine is both delicate and humble, yet its force of flavor, weight, and potent spice create a density that cannot be missed. Drink until 2015.
