This carefully crafted wine begins with a beautiful, deep nose of cherry and plum aromas accented with light cedary notes. A delicate mouthful with a long finish. Pinot Noir grapes from four vineyards are included in the final blend. Medium/dark ruby-colored with a superb perfume of pain grille, roses, raspberry, and cherry. Velvety-textured, savory, and ripe, the wine conceals enough structure to evolve for 2-3 years. Layered and long, it will be at its best from 2012 to 2016. A supple 100 % Pinot Noir blend from four premium vineyards in the same area. Bien Nacido, Laetitia, Rimrock and Solomon Hills, excellent cool weather vineyards for producing an optimal Pinot Noir that is unique. Whole cluster fermentation was used with only the Laetitia fruit which contributes to achieving a wine with greater complexity.
2005 Michelot Nuits St Georges Chaignots 1er Cru
$ 49.99"The wines of Alain Michelot have remained stylistically unchanged over the last 18 years of my visits with him. Of the dozen or so wines in his range I have always had favorites and that too has remained unchanged through time. The Chaignots really shines in 2005. Remember this vineyard is located north of town toward the village of Vosne Romanee. It has great weight yet more refined tannins found in the more masculine Vaucrains yet with similar concentration." 93 Points - Robrt Sprentall, B-21 Wine Staff "Mild reduction detracts only slightly from the red and black pinot fruit aromas nuanced by spicy earth notes that continue onto the very structured tannins that are firm and serious and stop just short of being aggressive yet there is better mid-palate concentration that does a better job of buffering them. This is long and strong and is very Nuits yet with a touch more refinement than the Porrets." 89-92 Points - Allen Meadow's Burghound Issue 25
2005 Roquers de Porrera (Priorat)
$ 49.99"Deep red. Spicy blueberry and kirsch aromas are brightened by white pepper and minerals. Juicy dark fruit flavors stop short of jammy, with firm tannins adding grip. Sweet vanillin oak spice builds on the long, sappy finish, which features a lingering raspberry note. This could pass for a big New World pinot." 90 points - Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar, Sep/Oct 07
"Attractive, burnished gold hue. Fresh bread dough aromas with mixed grains and a hint of sherry. Soft brioche and tropical fruit flavors show a touch of chalkiness. Light toast, fresh acids and lemon zest cap the finish." 93 points - The Wine News, December 2008 "Richly colored in hues of amber and gold, with a toasty, full-bodied nose that offers maturity and depth. This Champagne is totally on the money, with ripe but reserved apple and citrus flavors, and then the slightest bit of mushroom and baked bread on the finish." 92 Points - Wine Enthusiast, December 15, 2005 "Opulent Champagne, this is saturated with ripe fruit, from white peach to white raspberry and lime. It's gloriously heady, yet the acidity keeps it clear and aligned. Old-fashioned rococo elegance." 92 points - Wine & Spirits, December 2008 "Fresh and elegant, revealing a graphite and citrus flavor profile. Shows finesse and a mineral and chalk quality on the back end. Beautifully refined and persistent, with a mouthwatering finish. Drink now through 2012. 41,000 cases made." 91 points - Wine Spectator, November 15, 2008 "The NV Brut Grande Reserve is an incredibly refined wine redolent of ripe pears, flowers and smoke. This mid-weight wine possesses notable elegance, with a long, refreshing finish that lingers on the palate with sweet notes of toasted oak. A fresh, vibrant Champagne, it should continue to develop nicely in bottle for at least a few more years. The Grande Reserve is roughly 46% Chardonnay, 39% Pinot Noir, and 13% Pinot Meunier, with the addition of 12% reserve wine. The cork is labeled C 7470, and this bottle was disgorged in late January, 2008. Anticipated maturity: 2008-2012." 91 Points - Robert Parker's The Wine Advocate, Issue 180, December 2008
2001 Silvio Grasso Barolo Giachini
$ 54.99"Aromas of blackberries with plums and dried fruits follow through to a full-bodied palate, with chewy tannins and a long, long finish. This is a wonderful single-vineyard wine from Silvio Grasso. Best after 2007. 250 cases made." 92 points - Wine Spectator, October 15, 2005 "Bright red-ruby. Sexy, penetrating, rather pinot-like aromas of cherry, raspberry, mace and nutmeg. Then sweet, broad and firmly built, with cool red fruit and mineral flavors nicely framed by firm acids. In the past, the Corino Giachini bottling has struck me as Musigny-like; in 2001, this example from Grasso offers some of the same Burgundian tang and minerality. Very youthful Barolo, finishing with substantial but fine tannins that call for five or six years of aging." 92(+?) points, Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar, Nov/Dev 04 "The dark ruby 2001 Barolo Giachini presents a complex nose of spices, menthol and minerals. Round and soft on the palate, it offers plenty of ripe red fruit and toasted oak flavors, with good length and terrific overall balance. Anticipated maturity: 2007-2016." 90 points - Wine Advocate #167 (Oct 2006)
2005 L'Angevin Pinot Noir Sonoma Stage Vineyard Sonoma Coast
$ 59.99"The 2005 Pinot Noir Sonoma Stage Vineyard exhibits cola, mulberry, black cherry and even some darker fruits. This impressive Pinot Noir can be drunk now or cellared for 3-4 years." 91 points - Robert Parker's The Wine Advocate, Issue 174
2006 DuMol Pinot Noir Ryan Russian River Valley
$ 119.99"The 2006 Pinot Noir Ryan seems much lighter than the 2005. Dark ruby in color with sweet blue and red fruits intermixed with some roasted herbs, cola, and truffle, its soft, plush finish suggests this wine will drink nicely for 5-6 years as well." 90-93 points - Robert Parker's The Wine Advocate, Issue 174
2005 Michel Magnien Charmes Chambertin Grand Cru
$ 149.99Ample wood spice frames red pinot fruit and warm earth aromas where the earth component can also be found on the rich, fleshy and generous full-bodied flavors that are textured, concentrated and culminate in a mocha and plum infused finish. This is certainly a "statement" wine with a flair for the dramatic as it possesses plenty of personality but I marginally prefer the detail and delineation of the Cazetiers. 90-92 Points, Allen Meadows' Burghound, Issue 25 (from Mazoyeres) Ruby-red. Rather tight, brooding nose hints at blackberry and violet. Then sappy, sweet and surprisingly fleshy if not especially complex, with very primary dark berry flavors. Seems a bit unformed today. 90-93 points, Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar, Mar/Apr 07
