  1. Garciarevalo 2005 Casamaro Tinto Rueda

    $ 9.49

    Responding to the market’s demand for great wines at value prices, here is an excellent value red wine that has never seen a day in oak. The gutsy 2005 Casamaro Tinto (100% Tempranillo) possesses a dark ruby/purple color as well as notes of pepper, spice, earth, and sweet cherry fruit. The tannins are elegant in this personality-filled, bistro-styled red. There seems to be an identity crisis at many modern Spanish wineries. Character and distinctiveness are being sacrificed for slickness and precious critical accolades. Casamaro Tinto is the antithesis—instead of a heavy, boorish international style, this Rueda wine. It’s a red to serve a little chilled with a young chèvre covered in rosemary. About Garciarevalo: In the heart of Rueda is the family-owned winery of Garciarevalo. If you visit their vineyards you may notice something odd about the ground; the sandy soils scattered with the occasional ancient seashell might make you forget that these vineyards are located in central Spain, at an elevation of 900 meters. These sandy soils provided a natural protection from phylloxera when the pest spread across the region about 100 years ago. Ranging from 100 to 145 years old, many of those vines still grow today.

  2. 2005 Vampire Merlot Paso Robles

    $ 9.99

    Long before the tales of vampires spread, the Transylvanian people mastered the art of producing wine. Plato proclaimed the vineyards of Transylvania to be the finest in the world. Vampire Merlot has a lively dark purple color. The soft fruit flavors integrate well with the structure of this wine, which marries soft tannins with vanilla hints of fine American oak. It is perfect to enjoy now but has the structure to age. A big wine, Vampire Merlot can take on the biggest char-grilled steaks you can throw at it, but it also has the fine elegance of this classic variety, allowing it to be served at parties with buffet foods and dips.

  3. 2005 J.Kerr Californio Chardonnay

    $ 10.95

     "This may be the best price to value wine I have ever tasted. It's hard to imagine that a wine that spent two years in barrels then another year in bottle could sell for this price. Ultrarich and concentrated, with layers of fig, citrus and tangerine flavors that are shaded by toasty oak, filling out the flavor profile and ending with a complex marshmallow edge. Drink now through 2011". CPM 05/2008 For much of his wine career John Kerr has been famed for his way with Chardonnay and Santa Barbara County's Bien Nacido Vineyard gave him the perfect fruit to show what he could do with the grape. This amazing Chardonnay is a blend of grapes from his 2004-2005 barrels. The beautifully balanced Californio (Original Mexican term for California) wine is barrel fermented but not overly oaked. It is light and crisp with lots of tropical fruit flavors and a perfect acidity and balance. This wine is rich, fresh and lively. A beautiful blend from one of the Born to a career Navy Officer, John spent his childhood moving around the country. He began his winemaking career in 1972 shortly after returning home as a decorated veteran. At Brookside Winery in Ventura, California John began developing his love for grapes. In 1980 John moved to Monterey County and began seriously pursuing a winemaking career. He worked at Chalone and Jekel wineries before spending four years at Ventana Vineyards and Winery where he was in charge of production. In 1984 he returned to Santa Barbara County where he became an independent consulting winemaker, assisting Babcock Winery in their first crush, producing seven varietals that were all awarded gold medals in competitions. He assisted Brander and Houtz wineries, and was the winemaker at Houtz for four years. Working at several wineries at once, John also began working for Byron Winery in 1986. 1986 is the year of the first JJ. Kerr Wines crush. Concentrating on Chardonnay, which is the mainstay of JJ.Kerr Wines, John began making reds in 1988 with highly acclaimed Syrah wines. In 1990 Byron became an R.J. Mondovi subsidiary and John took the position of assistant winemaker but continued to nurture his own label JJ Kerr Wines. Expanding from Chardonnay, John began his ground breaking work on Pinot Noir in 1991 in Santa Barbara. In 1995 John went to work for the Firestone family as

  4. Whitehall Lane 2005 Pinot Noir Carneros

    $ 12.98

    This is a solid Pinot Noir from a top-notch Napa Valley winery. Known mostly for their Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, this is a varietal that Whitehall Lane had great success with in the 2005. About the vintage: The 2005 growing season in Carneros started with cool, wet weather, followed by mild summer months. With ample moisture in the soil and warm days, the Pinot Noir ripened slowly and evenly. The grapes were harvested from the Las Brisas Vineyard and the Sangiacomo Vineyard in the middle of September when the fruit displayed ideal balance and juicy, ripe flavors. Tasting note: The 2005 Whitehall Lane Carneros Pinot Noir is beautifully balanced, displaying aromas and flavors of ripe cherry, strawberry, clove and toasty oak. It is supple, clean and smooth on the mid-palate with a savory crème brulee finish. Enjoyable now and for several years to come. This is a solid bottle of Pinot Noir!

  6. 2005 Dominio de Tares Baltos Mencia Bierzo

    $ 14.99

    "The 2005 Baltos Mencia comes from a less steep terroir and is aged in oak for 6 months. This purple-colored effort exhibits an attractive bouquet of minerals, earth, black cherry and raspberry. This is followed by a medium-bodied wine with concentrated, ripe fruit, excellent depth, and a pure finish. Because of the old-vine, labor-intensive vineyards with low yields, wines from Bierzo can be pricey so this well-made wine is an excellent value." 90 points - Robert Parker's The Wine Advocate, Issue 169 "Bright purple. Spicy blackberry and plum on the nose, with intriguing tobacco, espresso and licorice accents. Bitter cherry and dark plum flavors are braced by firm tannins and vibrant acidity, with slow-mounting sweetness carrying through the finish. Impressively energetic and pure, closing with fresh, vivid blackberry and plum." 90 points - Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar, Jul/Aug 07

  7. 2005 Bacchantes 'The Dancer' Shiraz Gomersal Vineyard (Barossa)

    $ 14.99

    "Intense and juicy, with a bouquet that jumps across the table, this under-priced juvenile is wholesome, perky and disarming. Over a faint morning hearth of slightly sooty oak there's a heap of rich, fat fruit, supported by lovely dry medium-grained tannins. As the wine ever-so-gradually recedes, its firm acidity and tannin sets the salivatories gushing, driving the drinker to tucker. And another glass. It'll last 15 years, growing smoother for the first 10. The winemaker is Ben Glaetzer." 92 Points - The Independent Weekly, April 11, 2006

    $ 19.99

    "The 2005 Clos des Andes is 100% Malbec sourced from an 80 year old vineyard in the Lujan de Cuyo region of Mendoza. The wine was 50% barrel fermented and was aged for 12 months in 50% new and 50% 1 year French oak. Inky purple in color, the wine has a lovely bouquet of wood smoke, cedar, violets, blueberry, and black cherry. Firm and well-balanced, it has superb depth, sweet, fruit, and a lengthy finish. Give it 3-4 years to evolve and drink it through 2025." 91 Points, Robert Parker's Wine Advocate #174 (Dec 2007)

  10. 2005 Legaris Tinta"Crianza"

    $ 21.00

    Aged 12 months in oak casks, this young Spanish Tinta  from the Ribera del Duero Region is called a "Crianza" Spanish for baby. It sports a silky texture carries plum, tobacco, coffee and mineral flavors over ripe tannins in this balanced red. Berry and vanilla notes linger on the finish. The grapes are grown with little to no irragation causing intense fruit. Spanish wines still present some of the best quality to price ratio in the world and this is very much the case with the Legaris. The vineyard covers two sectors: one in Curiel del Duero and another one in San Martín de Rubiales. The two Legaris vineyards are planted with Tinta Fina, although in future there are plans to plant 20% of the land with Cabernet Sauvignon. The Ribera del Duero region has a continental climate tempered by the mists from the River Duero that contribute additional humidity to the scant annual rainfall. The vineyard is situated between 700 and 850 meters above sea level and the soil is crumbly, abounding in limestone, deficient in iron and infertile.
