Vampire Merlot has a lively dark purple color. The soft fruit flavors integrate well with the structure of this wine, which marries soft tannins with vanilla hints of fine American oak. It is perfect to enjoy now but has the structure to age. 3. 2005 J.Kerr Californio Chardonnay

    $ 10.95

     "This may be the best price to value wine I have ever tasted. It's hard to imagine that a wine that spent two years in barrels then another year in bottle could sell for this price. Ultrarich and concentrated, with layers of fig, citrus and tangerine flavors that are shaded by toasty oak, filling out the flavor profile and ending with a complex marshmallow edge. Drink now through 2011". CPM 05/2008 For much of his wine career John Kerr has been famed for his way with Chardonnay and Santa Barbara County's Bien Nacido Vineyard gave him the perfect fruit to show what he could do with the grape. This amazing Chardonnay is a blend of grapes from his 2004-2005 barrels. The beautifully balanced Californio (Original Mexican term for California) wine is barrel fermented but not overly oaked. It is light and crisp with lots of tropical fruit flavors and a perfect acidity and balance. This wine is rich, fresh and lively. A beautiful blend from one of the Born to a career Navy Officer, John spent his childhood moving around the country. 8. 2005 Charles Cimicky Trumps Grenache/Shiraz Barossa Valley

    $ 13.99

    "Bright red. Intensely spicy red berry aromas remind me of high-end New World pinot; this boasts impressive purity and thrust. Exotic baking spices accent fresh strawberry and raspberry fruit, with silky tannins adding gentle support. Sweetness builds on the long, juicy, very precise finish. It's hard to believe that this wine is carrying 15.5% alcohol. The grenache vines used for this bottling are reportedly 80 years old." 90 points - Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar, Jul/Aug 07 "An outstanding bargain, the 2005 Grenache/Shiraz Trumps (72% Grenache and 28% Shiraz aged 15 months in old French oak) possesses a deep ruby/purple color, copious fruit, superb purity, and a touch of background wood. It is a full-bodied, powerful, amazingly flavorful wine for the price. Enjoy it over the next 2-3 years." 89 points - Robert Parker's The Wine Advocate, Issue 167 (Oct 2006) "Firm and spicy, with a distinct licorice note running through the dark fruit flavors, lingering nicely against fine tannins. Best from 2008 through 2015. 1,000 cases made." 89 points - Wine Spectator, October 15, 2007 "A blend of 65% Grenache and 35% Shiraz, this is a lush, easy-to-drink wine meant for early consumption.
