Chateau Faizeau 2005 Vieilles Vignes Bordeaux
$ 19.98Wine Spectator: 90 Points Chateau Faizeau produces one of Bordeaux's great value reds and today's offer adds to this wines incredible value. From the epic 2005 vintage, this is surely one of the great buys in a vintage where prices for the top crus set record highs. If you love great tasting Bordeaux but prices have kept you away, than this ones for you! Want ready-to-drink Bordeaux from a great vintage under twenty bucks? This is it! Has pretty berry, coffee and vanilla character. Medium-bodied, with fine tannins, lots of sweet black fruit and a long finish. Best after 2012. James Suckling, Wine Spectator Possibly the finest Faizeau made to date, this sleeper of the vintage reveals a deep ruby/purple color along with a lovely nose of kirsch, licorice, and pain grille. Full-bodied, ripe, and seamless with excellent harmony among its component parts, it hit 14.5% natural alcohol and is made from 100% Merlot. This extravagant, flamboyant effort should drink well for a decade. Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate Good bright ruby. Vibrant, pure aromas of black cherry, black raspberry, licorice and dark chocolate. Silky and suave in the mouth but with lovely vinosity to leaven the wine's deep sweetness. I love the sugar/acid snap here. Very fresh hints of licorice and exotic ginger. Nicely mouthcoating and lush on the back end, finishing with spreading, ripe tannins and a chocolatey flavor. An excellent performance. Half of these vines date back to 1911. This one weighs in at 14.75% alcohol and would make a perfect ringer in a tasting of California cabernets. Stephen Tanzer, International Wine Cellar
The Thompkin Cellars Couchant is 100% Cabernet Franc from the Thompson Vineyard. The result is a powerful wine that can be appreciated now, but will age nicely over the next 10 years. Very full-bodied with earth, provencal herbs, currants, spice and leather tones
2005 Chateau La Fleur Morange (Saint-Emilion)
$ 149.99"This wine has turned out beautifully from bottle, far superior to the impressive barrel samples! Sadly, production is limited to a mere 350 cases. Dense purple to the rim, with a superb bouquet of acacia flowers, blueberries, black currants, and crushed rocks, the wines oak component is completely obscured by the wealth of fruit and overall rich, concentrated style. As I have indicated in the past, this blend of 70% Merlot and 30% Cabernet Franc emerges from a vineyard averaging 100 years of age. Yields are a tiny 21 hectoliters per hectare. This exquisite St.-Emilion should be accessible in 5-7 years, and last for 25 or more. Kudos to the brilliant oenologist, Claude Gros, who produced this masterpiece." 96 points - The Wine Advocate, Issue 176
2005 Chateau L'Evangile (Pomerol)
$ 359.99"Dark in color, almost purple black, with pure tapenade and hints of ripe plum and berry. Full-bodied, with layer upon layer of velvety tannins and chocolate, berry, vanilla and tea flavors. Lasts for minutes. I am blown away by this wine. This has been amazing since the moment I tasted it from barrel. Reminds me of the superb 1950. Best after 2015." 100 points - Wine Spectator, March 31, 2008 "Under the ownership of Barons Rothschild (Lafite) since 1990, L'Evangile hit a new high in 2005. It has the spark of freshness at the heart of the best wines of the vintage, and it transforms that energy into layers of flavor, distinct yet seamlessly integrated. Focus on the parts and you'll find floral scents of rose, or beeswax and honey, earthen layers of tannin that include a deep black mushroom richness, a powerful core of plum and plum skin flavor. The flavors last for a minute or longer; the structure makes this a vin de garde." 96 points - Wine & Spirits, October 2008 "Production for this outstanding blend of 85% Merlot and 15% Cabernet Franc (made in a new cuverie) is only 40,000 bottles. The dense ruby/purple-tinged 2005 LEvangiles sublime 2005, a blend of 85% Merlot and 15% Cabernet Franc, is the first wine made in their brand new cuverie. Sadly, there are fewer than 3,500 cases of this deep purple-colored offering. A gorgeous nose of meat juices, black raspberries, chocolate, espresso, and notions of truffle oil as well as smoke is followed by a full-bodied Pomerol displaying sweet tannin, a flawless texture, and stunning complexity. While surprisingly showy and forward for a lEvangile, it will undoubtedly shut down over the next year or so. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2030." 95 points - The Wine Advocate, Issue 176
